Deathtrap

June 26th, 4am.
it was a quiet drive on a different route that night. i had not slept and did not intend to till we sent off our friend on his flight back to Vietnam. then 10mins later i had to wake my cell leader and two pastors.

someone say houston, we have a problem?

an X-trail slammed into the left end of our Jazz, and observing the extent of damage, with a minimum speed of 80-100kmh. we were caught dazed, about to collect a toll ticket when an explosive bang threw our car into chaos. angry shouts and curses followed, fueled by the impossibility of it all. the co-drivers door was damaged and jammed, so i couldn't get out from that side. adrenaline kicked in and my heart pounded, with a good measure of anger. as jon put it, we were caught in a mass stun- and one of us was more seriously hurt than the rest.

ron was knocked out cold, and i prayed a desperate prayer for God's hand to be upon him then. he was bleeding from a larceration on his head. blacked out from impact. jon and ruby managed make him regain consciousness, as we got everything and everyone away from the car, fearing an explosion in the aftermath. with the nerve of a wasted drunkard, the chinese driver's arrogance seemingly overrode his intoxication and threw a rude, but pointless, stupid, condescending try at settlement.

he should definitely be thrown into prison for endangering innocent lives with his negligence.
i would sue him to heck and back again if not for a rusted system.
everyone surviving in the end.
and the pure simplicity of seeing everything resolved quickly outside the system.
but the desire for justice must be capped for now.

no police on site to test the driver. late ambulances. no bloody remorse. apathy, inefficiency, negligence. someone could have died that day, but God's hand was upon us, and death stayed its pace. if we didn't borrow the jazz n it were a smaller car, if we were moving, if it hit us from any other side... it would have been vastly different at that speed. my God is an awesome God. i live to tell the tale. i continued on. brain scan and test on ron said he was ok. and [M2L] continued on. just like worship night, just like Christmas.. the show must go on regardless. and i'm glad. but those could have gone both ways as well. though the enemy can destroy your body, he cannot destroy your soul. you are the Lord's.

what is with our driving habits and degree of social, moral responsibility?

maybe the soft cars we have are infinitely more dangerous to ride in because of deathtraps called bad malaysian drivers. think about that the next time you down some alcohol and says its ok to drive. or neglect some problem with your car and still drive at breckneck. its not ok. its not always about you. time to wake up, children, and grow up.
